What is a Flip-Flop Thru-Hike?

A flip-flop thru-hike is when a hiker starts at one point on the trail, hikes to one end of the trail, and then flips back to hike the rest of the trail. This is opposed to a traditional SOBO (Southbound) or NOBO (Northbound) hike, where hikers start at one end and hike to the other end. Drew started his hike in Roanoke, VA to allow time for the section of the trail damaged by Hurricane Helene to be repaired. He is currently hiking northbound to Maine and will flip back to Virginia to finish the trail.
